Kickoff training in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan

Kickoff training in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan:
a new training with a new course in new countries!

For the first time we trained in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The request to do this came from the Aids Foundation East  West (AFEW). AFEW is part of Bridging the Gap, an alliance of 5 Dutch-based organizations led by the Amsterdam Aids Fonds, with 4 global key population networks and more than 60 local partner organizations. The mission of BtG is to achieve universal access to HIV/STI prevention, treatment, care and support for vulnerable and hard-to-reach individuals who are often those most in need. The Alliance supports work promoting creativity, flexibility, dedication, and, most of all, care. AFEW’s focus is on vulnerable groups that are usually beyond the purview of traditional models of service delivery.

Therefore, Health[e]Foundation and AFEW, together with its local AFEW offices in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, decided to develop and pilot a new blended learning course called “Client Management Systems [e] Education”. The need for this kind of training showed instantly as during the kickoff workshop, “equitable access to care” was a hot topic for discussion during the turning point quiz. HIV, TB and community outreach and peer education are important healthcare topics in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan , therefore Community[e]education, HIV[e]Education (with its new module on Human rights) and TB[e]education were immediately on the wish list of the participants.

As modules and extras need to be translated into Russian, we encouraged the input from AFEW staff and partners and we will to be often in touch and expand the training course even before the closing workshop. We expect that during the e-learning period the participants from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be surprised to receive new modules and tasks by email and requests for complicated cases to improve their knowledge and skills!
