At the break of 2021/22, we regretfully, though grateful for his visionary optimism, said goodbye to retiring Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Prof Dr Hans Romijn. As the perfect organizer, he did not leave us empty-handed, introducing us to his namesake and successor, Professor Dr Hans van Goudoever. We are enormously pleased to welcome him as our new Board member.
Hans van Goudoever is professor of Pediatrics at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije Universiteit (VU), chairman of the Emma’s Children’s Hospital – Amsterdam UMC, and, as per 1 January 2022, vice-chair of the Executive Board of the Amsterdam UMC as well as dean of the Faculty of Medicine (UvA).
He received his medical education and pediatric training at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. From 1998 until 2000 he held a post-doctorate position at the laboratory of the late Peter Reeds, Baylor College of Medicine, Children’s Nutrition Research Center, Houston, Texas. Thereafter he served as Head of Neonatology at Sophia Children’s Hospital, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, before moving to Amsterdam in 2010. He was a board member of the International Pediatric Research Foundation, council member of ESPR and ESPGHAN and chairman of the ESPHGAN Committee on Nutrition.
He has a particular interest in neonatal nutrition, gastro-enterology, and metabolism. He published over 400 peer reviewed papers and received many grants, both national and international. In 2011, he founded the Dutch Human Milk Bank.
We feel enriched with his expertise and special interest in maternal and child health as well as global health solutions and look forward to a thriving 2022.
